Hello. Thank you once again for joining us. This will be a shorter than normal newsletter as our next one will be extra long. (Mostly because it will announce our upcoming lineup for the rest of the year.)
Next Screening
Will-o’-the-Wisp | João Pedro Rodrigues | 7pm Tuesday 6 September at The Elizabeth
A deeply queer, very political near musical that touches on the importance of trees, firefighters, love and art, while kicking against dying conservative institutes.
Cannes 2022
On his deathbed, his royal highness Alfredo, King without a crown, is taken back to distant youth memories and the time he dreamt of becoming a fireman. The encounter with instructor Afonso from the fire brigade, opens a new chapter in the life of the two young men devoted to love and desire, and the will to change the status quo.
The latest feature from Portuguese master João Pedro Rodrigues (whose last film The Ornithologist, a deeply queer, very political recreation of the Stations of the Cross was one of our favourite films of 2016) comes in at a giddy 67 minutes—traversing questions of nationality, monarchy, colonisation and representation, while parlaying the environmental and sexual implications of how to hold a fireman’s hose properly.

Container has joined the film watching/social media website Letterboxd. You can find us here or as ContainerBFS. At the moment we’re just filling in our history and upcoming screenings, but we’re going to shortly begin to use it to showcase interesting reviews, and further contextualise screenings with lists and potential alternate programs.
Thank you. We hope to catch you on Tuesday for our screening of Will'-o’-the-Wisp, and our following email will contain more information on our 20 September screening of Lux Æterna a highly overloaded split screen film from provocateur and stylist Gaspar Noé about the mediated representation of women and witchcraft. Originally funded as a Saint Laurent ad before Noé got carried away. Something astonishing and starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Béatrice Dalle.
