Hello. Thank you once again for joining us. Our previous screening of A Grand Mockery sold out and so we’re presenting a second screening.
Wednesday’s Screening:
A Grand Mockery, Adam C. Briggs & Sam Dixon, 2024, 108m
7pm, 19 March, at New Farm Cinemas
Josie (Sam Dixon) leads a life of passive mundane displeasure before his psychic ills deform him and sees him roaming the rainforest hinterlands of Queensland.
Winner of the SXSW Sydney Best Feature Film, A Grand Mockery is simultaneously singular and a flashback to underground filmmaking before it became codified. Filmed on soft luminous super-8, tonally playful and structured as a diptych, A Grand Mockery begins as a work of morbid comic realism before the film transforms along with Josie.
"A wholly singular earthy, (sub)urban strand of Australian avant-garde filmmaking, A Grand Mockery is alive with a kind of pure, youthful energy that is far too rare.” Alexandra Heller-Nicholas
Unrated 18+
This programme is introduced in person by filmmakers Adam C. Briggs and Sam Dixon with a Q&A following the screening.
Note that that this Container screening is a ticketed event taking place at New Farm Cinemas, not our usual EPT haunt. This is a ticketed screening and tickets can be found here.
Additional Reading (for those who have the time and curiosity):
A very appropriate Film Revolt interview with Adam C. Briggs and Sam Dixon can be found here while Sam Dixon is interviewed on his Maleny background and A Grand Mockery’s film locations here.
Thank you.
